Interview Copilots, Compared Without a Ranking

Five copilots, six criteria, and no score. Live sessions and mock practice. You still speak or type every answer.

The HIDEA AI team

Updated 13 min read

A laptop, a tablet, and a phone lined up in a row on a dark desk, each with a blank screen.

There is no single best interview copilot. The right one depends on whether you need mock practice, live help, or both, who has to produce the answer, and how a tool behaves on a screen share. This page compares five products on six criteria using their own public pages, read on 21 October 2026, and ranks none of them.

Built to be your first-choice interview copilot — live sessions and mock, you speak or type every answer. That sentence is how HIDEA AI is built. It is not a rank. It is not a claim that the other tools failed a test we did not run.

The five are HIDEA AI, Final Round AI, LockedIn, LinkJob, and Preptail. We re-read their public pages on 21 October 2026. If a page has changed since, the page wins.

Six criteria

Use the same six questions on each product. A missing answer on a page is a missing answer. It is not a point we awarded ourselves.

  • Mock practice. A sitting before anyone is interviewing you.
  • Live sessions. Help while the interview, assessment, or platform round is happening, including Ropes and Feenyx.
  • You speak or type every answer. The tool does not sit the round, and you cannot skip that.
  • A desktop overlay. Ours is skipped by screen share.
  • Surfaces. Verbal, Live coding, System design, and Project are the four we ship. The others publish their own list.
  • Ethics and transparency. A public limit you can check, not a slogan.

HIDEA AI

HIDEA AI is a desktop app for macOS and Windows. Live sessions and mock practice are the same app. The surfaces are Verbal, Live coding, System design, and Project. You speak or type every answer.

The overlay stays out of your screen share when you need it live. On a share, the overlay is skipped. You still see it on your display. When the meeting app uses a filtered capture, it stays out of the feed. Confirm that in the preview before you rely on it. The how-to is https://hidea.ai/blog/screen-share-privacy-interview-howto. A clean preview is not a guarantee against dedicated proctoring software. The same note is on https://hidea.ai/security.

A mock is the app asking the questions. A live session is the interview, assessment, or platform round in front of you, including Ropes and Feenyx. How the two modes differ is https://hidea.ai/blog/mock-vs-live-interview-copilot. What some employers publish about their own process is https://hidea.ai/blog/ai-interview-employer-rules-candidates. We do not ship Interview Pass, and a draft on the screen is not a pass.

Competitors such as Final Round AI and LockedIn AI do not work in fullscreen platform modes, including Ropes and Feenyx. The HIDEA AI overlay floats on the fullscreen platform and screen share skips it, so it keeps supporting those live sessions. You still speak or type every answer. Screen-share capture skips the overlay. Floating on the platform is not a guarantee against dedicated proctoring software.

A sourced comparison of Final Round AI and HIDEA AI, with their pages linked and dated, is at https://hidea.ai/alternatives/final-round-ai. The desktop app is at https://hidea.ai/download.

Final Round AI

Their getting-started doc, read on 21 October 2026, describes Interview Copilot as a live AI helper that listens to the interview and streams suggested answers for you to say in your own words. It also describes practice interviews against an AI interviewer, coding and system design help that writes a full worked solution in a side panel, and a written debrief after each session. The doc is https://docs.finalroundai.com/docs/getting-started/what-is-finalround. A sourced comparison of the two products is here.

Their Stealth Mode page, read on 21 October 2026, says the desktop app keeps CoPilot windows out of screen shares and recordings in supported meeting apps such as Zoom, Google Meet and Teams, that the setting is on by default, and that you should run a private screen-share test before an important call. Their main CoPilot page goes further and uses the phrase 100% undetectable. We did not test either claim, and we do not use that wording for HIDEA AI. The pages are https://www.finalroundai.com/stealth-mode and https://www.finalroundai.com/.

On platforms and plans, their site says the desktop app runs on macOS 14.4 or newer and on Windows. It says the free plan covers setting up Goals with a resume and materials, and that live CoPilot sessions need a paid Pro subscription, with no free trial. For current prices, use their own site. Two lines on their docs pull in different directions: suggestions are for you to say in your own words, while coding help writes a worked solution. You still decide what you say and what you submit, and their page does not replace the employer's rule for the live round.

LockedIn

Their desktop app page, read on 21 October 2026, is headed as a fully hidden and undetectable assistant and lists Stealth Mode, a transparency slider, screen-area selection and system audio capture. Their troubleshooting doc is narrower. It says Stealth Mode is a desktop-only feature, on by default and included on paid plans except General. The web app does not hide the window, and Teams running in a browser is a gap they name. They ship a built-in Test Stealth Mode tool and still tell you to dry-run the exact meeting app you will use. The pages are https://www.lockedinai.com/desktop-app and https://docs.lockedinai.com/docs/troubleshooting/mac-audio-and-screen-share.

Their mock interview page, read on 21 October 2026, describes behavioral, technical and system design practice with an AI interviewer that asks follow-ups. Each session ends with a report scored on five elements: clarity, structure, technical content, delivery and filler words. The page says the mock is free to start with no credit card, and also runs in a mobile app on iOS and Android. The page is https://www.lockedinai.com/mock-interview. LockedIn Duo, listed on the same site as Remote Assist, lets a helper join a private session with live tips and optional hands-on screen guidance. That is a different product choice from a copilot you operate yourself.

Our overlay stays out of your screen share when you need it live. You still speak or type every answer. That is not their invisible or stealth wording, and it is not a guarantee against dedicated proctoring software.

LinkJob

Their homepage, read on 21 October 2026, calls the product invisible and undetectable, says it is tested daily, and mentions eye-tracking and proctoring detection. It also describes a dual-device mode that shows answers on your phone to avoid detection by desktop monitoring software. That is their marketing copy and we did not test it. HIDEA AI has no mode built to evade monitoring, and we do not make those claims. The page is https://www.linkjob.ai/.

On the practical side, their site lists desktop versions for Windows, macOS and Linux, a mock you can start by voice or text, and a copilot for behavioral, technical, coding and system design interviews. Their pricing page, read on 21 October 2026, lists a monthly plan at $99.99 a month, a quarterly plan at $69.99 a month billed $209.97 a quarter, a yearly plan at $29.99 a month billed $359.88 a year, and a $999.99 lifetime plan. The pages are https://www.linkjob.ai/ai-mock-interview/, https://www.linkjob.ai/interview-copilot/ and https://www.linkjob.ai/pricing/.

A mock you speak is practice. A live answer is still an answer you give. Nothing on those pages lets you skip speaking or typing, and we will not say that it does.

Preptail

Their homepage, read on 21 October 2026, describes an invisible AI copilot for live interviews that is undetectable on screen share, with pricing from $5 an hour and no subscription. Their coach and practice pages returned no readable content to a plain page fetch on that date, so we make no claims about their practice mode or surfaces. We removed the details we cited earlier because we could not re-check them. The page is https://www.preptail.com/.

That is their positioning, and we did not test it. HIDEA AI does not ship Interview Pass, and a draft appearing on a screen is not a pass. You still speak or type every answer.

Price and platforms, as published

These are facts read from each product's own pages on 21 October 2026. Prices change, so check the linked page before you buy.

  • HIDEA AI. Desktop app for macOS and Windows. The free plan is 15 session minutes per calendar day with no credit card. Pro is $30 a month and Pro+ is $60 a month. Details are on the pricing page.
  • Final Round AI. Desktop app for macOS 14.4 or newer and Windows. The free plan covers preparing Goals; live CoPilot needs a paid Pro subscription and their site says there is no free trial.
  • LockedIn. The mock interview is described as free to start with no credit card. We could not read their plan prices from the pricing page, which loads them with a script, so we state none. Their docs say Stealth Mode is not included on the General plans.
  • LinkJob. Desktop versions for Windows, macOS and Linux. Monthly $99.99, quarterly $69.99 a month, yearly $29.99 a month (billed $359.88 a year), lifetime $999.99.
  • Preptail. Homepage metadata says from $5 an hour with no subscription. We could not read more of the site.

Criterion by criterion

Read down the list. Each line is what that product publishes, or what we ship. It is not a score.

Mock practice

  • HIDEA AI. A mock is the app asking the questions. The live session is the same app.
  • Final Round AI. Their site describes practice interviews against an AI interviewer, launched from a Goal, with eight listed scenarios including Coding, System Design and Behavioral.
  • LockedIn. Their mock page describes behavioral, technical and system design practice, with a scored report at the end, on the web and in a mobile app.
  • LinkJob. Their mock page says you can start a mock by voice or text and get instant feedback.
  • Preptail. Not compared here: their practice page returned no readable content on 21 October 2026.

Live sessions

  • HIDEA AI. Live help during the interview, assessment, or platform round, including Ropes and Feenyx, and mock practice in the same app.
  • Final Round AI. They describe a live Interview CoPilot for the real interview, available on a paid Pro subscription.
  • LockedIn. They describe real-time answers during the interview, and Duo for a live human helper.
  • LinkJob. They describe a real-time copilot for live interviews and browser-based tests.
  • Preptail. Their homepage describes a live copilot for real interviews.

You speak or type every answer

  • HIDEA AI. You speak or type every answer. The surface does not take the interview.
  • Final Round AI. One line says you say the suggestions in your own words. Another says coding help writes a worked solution. You still choose the words and the code you submit.
  • LockedIn. They describe real-time answers and code help, and Duo can add another person. You are still the person on the call.
  • LinkJob. They describe guidance while the interview is happening, and a mock you can speak. That is not permission to stay silent.
  • Preptail. We could not re-read their step wording, so we say nothing about it.

Desktop overlay and screen share

  • HIDEA AI. The overlay is skipped when you share. Check the preview. That is not a guarantee against dedicated proctoring software.
  • Final Round AI. They market Stealth Mode, on by default, for supported meeting apps, and tell you to test your setup first. Their main page also uses the phrase 100% undetectable.
  • LockedIn. They market a hidden window and Stealth Mode, and their docs name cases where it does not hold, including the web app and Teams in a browser.
  • LinkJob. They market the product as invisible and undetectable, including proctoring detection and a dual-device mode. That is their pitch. We did not check it.
  • Preptail. Their homepage describes the product as undetectable on screen share. That is their pitch. We did not check it.

Surfaces

  • HIDEA AI. Verbal, Live coding, System design, and Project. Project reads a local folder you bind.
  • Final Round AI. Their site names live Interview CoPilot, practice interviews, debriefs, screen help for coding and system design, and Stealth Mode. We did not see a project-folder surface on the pages we read.
  • LockedIn. The mock page names behavioral, technical, and system design. Live copy names answers, code, and coaching.
  • LinkJob. Their copilot page covers behavioral, technical, coding and system design interviews, and their pricing page lists general, coding, phone and HireVue interview types.
  • Preptail. Not compared here: their practice page returned no readable content on 21 October 2026.

Ethics and transparency

  • HIDEA AI. You speak or type every answer. The overlay is skipped when you share. We do not guarantee a result against dedicated proctoring software. The note is public: https://hidea.ai/security.
  • Final Round AI. Their Stealth Mode FAQ says to use the product in a way that fits your own comfort level and any interview rules you must follow. Their CoPilot page also markets it as 100% undetectable. Read both as their claims.
  • LockedIn. Hidden-window and stealth claims, and a second person in Duo, are claims they publish. Their docs also name setups where the window is not hidden.
  • LinkJob. Undetectable, proctoring detection and a dual-device mode are the pitch on their homepage. We did not check that pitch. Our overlay claim is that screen share skips it, plus you speak or type every answer.
  • Preptail. Undetectable on screen share is copy they publish. We do not ship Interview Pass.

How do you choose an interview copilot without a ranking?

Start from the round, not the brand. These questions sort most of the decision.

  • Do you need practice, live help, or both? A product that only does one forces a second tool and a second habit.
  • Which surface does the round score: spoken answers, live coding, system design, or a project walkthrough? Check that the product names it.
  • Who produces the answer? Any tool that drafts text still leaves you to say or type it. Be honest about whether you can do that fluently.
  • What does the employer's rule say? A tool the round forbids is the wrong tool for that round, however good it is.
  • What is the platform and price? Check the operating system, the free tier, and whether the plan you need is monthly or a long commitment.

What this note will not say

  • That you can skip speaking or typing. You cannot.
  • That we guarantee a result against dedicated proctoring software.
  • That we ship Interview Pass, a guarantee, or a rank.
  • That a competitor's stealth page is true or false. We read the page. We did not run their app.

Use the criteria on the round you have

Name the surface the round will score. Practice that surface out loud, or by typing it yourself, then open the same surface in the live session. You still speak or type every answer, and you still check the share preview. The overlay is skipped when you share. HIDEA AI is that desktop app on macOS and Windows. Download it at https://hidea.ai/download.

Where to go next

To see how HIDEA AI handles the criteria above, start with the interview copilot overview, then the pricing page and the security page. For the rule side of the decision, read what employers publish about AI in interviews, and for the practice side, mock versus live.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI interview copilot?

An AI interview copilot is a desktop or web tool that listens to interview questions, or reads your screen, and shows a suggested answer or a hint on your display. Most also offer mock interviews for practice. You still have to speak or type the answer yourself, and the employer's rules decide whether using one in a live round is allowed.

Which interview copilot is the best?

There is no single best one. It depends on whether you need mock practice, live help or both, which interview type you face, your operating system, and your budget. This page compares five products on six criteria from their own public pages and ranks none of them. Choose the one that fits the round you actually have.

Do interview copilots stay hidden on screen share?

Most vendors say their window is hidden from screen share in supported meeting apps, and most tell you to test first. HIDEA AI's overlay is marked as protected content so screen share skips it. Even so, a clean preview is not a guarantee against dedicated proctoring software, a second camera, or a person who can see your display.

Are interview copilots allowed in live interviews?

That depends on the employer. Several companies publish rules that allow AI for preparation but not for producing answers during a live interview unless they say that round allows it. If no rule is published, ask the recruiter in writing before the round. Our note on employer rules quotes four real policies.

How much does an interview copilot cost?

It varies widely. As read on 21 October 2026, HIDEA AI has a free plan of 15 session minutes a day, then $30 a month for Pro. LinkJob lists $99.99 monthly down to $29.99 a month on a yearly plan, and Final Round AI requires a paid Pro subscription for live sessions. Check each vendor's page, because prices change.
