Download the HIDEA AI desktop app for macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, on Intel and Apple Silicon, for Windows 10 or 11, and for Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04. The free plan is included, with 15 session minutes a day and no credit card. It is not a browser extension or a meeting plugin.

Requirements

macOS 13 (Ventura) or later on Intel and Apple Silicon. Windows 10 or 11 on x64. Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 on x64.

Permissions

Screen recording for snips and copy-text. Microphone and system audio for live transcription. Both are requested on first use.

Updates

The app checks for a newer version shortly after launch and tells you. Downloads are never automatic — you decide when to install.

Installation

Set up in five steps

Pick your platform. Each takes about the same amount of time.

macOS

  1. 1Open the downloaded .dmg from your Downloads folder.
  2. 2Drag HIDEA AI into your Applications folder.
  3. 3Open HIDEA AI from Applications.
  4. 4Grant Screen Recording permission when macOS asks — snips and copy-text need it.
  5. 5Grant Microphone permission so live transcription can hear the interview.

Windows

  1. 1Run the downloaded .exe installer.
  2. 2Allow microphone access when Windows prompts.
  3. 3Allow screen capture when Windows prompts.
  4. 4Launch HIDEA AI from the Start menu.
  5. 5If capture fails, open Settings → Permissions in the app to jump straight to Windows privacy settings.

Ubuntu

  1. 1Download the .AppImage, or the .deb if you prefer a system package.
  2. 2AppImage: run chmod +x on the file, then double-click it or run it from a terminal.
  3. 3Deb: run sudo apt install ./*-Linux-*.deb from the folder you downloaded it to.
  4. 4Sign in, then allow microphone and screen capture if the desktop asks.
  5. 5Open Settings → Permissions in the app to confirm audio and screen capture work.

Troubleshooting

If something is not working

Screenshots come back blank

Screen recording permission has not been granted. On macOS, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, enable HIDEA AI, then restart the app.

Transcription is not picking anything up

Check the audio device menu in the interview control bar and confirm system audio is selected. Settings → Permissions runs a diagnostic and tells you exactly what is missing.

The overlay is showing in my screen share

Share a window or your screen rather than a browser tab, then check the share preview. The overlay is protected content, so screen share skips it. Run a test call with yourself first, and on Ubuntu confirm the preview before you rely on it.

Still stuck

Email support@hidea.ai with your OS version and what you were doing. Settings → Contact Support sends it with diagnostics attached.
